Support Start Date: 1992. Erik was sent out to the mission field from First Baptist Church (now Centerpoint Community Church) in Salem.
Describe your current work:
Just as the book of Acts tells stories about God changing lives, I coach and edit a team of writers who continue to capture God changing lives in people around the world. We also write articles that explain how to become a Christian; we write how-to articles meant to build readers in their Christian faith; we equip new and seasoned believers to go and follow Jesus wherever He sends them or has already placed them as His witness. We believe that the Great Commission continues, and we invite people to find a specific part in following Jesus’ command. Some of our articles are evangelistic, others are aimed at strategic discipleship, but all of our work seeks to lift up God in a world that is tempted to restrict His active work to only history. He’s alive and we document it with our words.
Our team (reorganized from many teams into one last fall) is responsible for writing content that appears in Worldwide Challenge magazine, several Web sites of Campus Crusade for Christ (like the flagship site www.ccci.org), and many additional products (like the annual report). God has allowed me to use my skills and experience as coach and editor for this team of missionary journalists; we serve on the communications team for the Vice President of the Americas.
Current Support Needs: My wife and I need to raise an additional $2,220/monthly support. It has happened because we have had people drop off our team and lower their monthly commitments. We are trusting God to introduce us to new ministry partners for the future. He has been faithful for many, many years.
Important Prayer and Family Needs:
- Our monthly support needs are daunting; please pray for courage for us and that God will lead us to people who want to join our team (even in this economy).
- We are moving to a new neighborhood at the end of this month. Please pray that God would use us to engage with our new neighbors and represent Him well. Please also pray for friends for our children—especially our son, Brenner, since our two daughters have each other to play with. He is leaving behind good friends in this neighborhood.
- Our 6-year-old daughter, Allison, has broken her arm twice in 13 months, yet, due to lower support, we have not been able to reimburse the expenses for her most recent hospital bills (as well as the cost of her frequent trips to the doctor for physical therapy). Her arm is healing and she is slowly regaining full mobility; please pray for the funds (about $700) and that Allison will be able to touch her shoulder again with her right arm.
- Pray for Erik as he leads a weekly Care Group at our church. Jennifer and he provide spiritual care for about 20 people in the group.
